DIY metallic acorns

metallic acorns

when i was a little girl, i’d walk home from the bus stop gathering acorns.  i had no intention of doing anything with them, i just loved collecting them, loved pulling the “hats” off the top, loved the velvety softness of the smooth acorn filling up my sweatshirt pockets.

recently when i was at my parents’ house, i spotted these little treasures on the ground and took immediately to gathering.

they sat in a bowl, but looked kind of… meh.

then i decided to give them just a hint of glimmer with metallic paint.

i had 4 different metallic shades of metallic paint from deco art – from a super soft silver to a pale gold, copper and an antique gold.

i pulled off all of the loose “hats” and set them aside.  see how velvety they are?

i quickly painted the acorns (and my fingers!) with all 4 paints.

as soon as they dried i used hot glue to attach the hats back on.

subtle, but so pretty!

Brilliant and easy!! Right up my alley! I’m sharing with a friend who was wanting “nuts” to fill in glass cylinder candle holders!!

So pretty! Beware, I tried to use acorns for a decor project last year and a few days after I sat them out in a bowl all kinds of little creepy crawlies started coming out of them! Pop your acorns in the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes and it will kill any little bugs hiding inside.

Yes watch out for those grubs (worms). We discovered that problem after my son brought some home! Love what you did to them!
