what i wore

welcome to “what i wore” at the pleated poppy!  share with me your fashion posts and we can inspire each other!  i started this originally as motivation to get out of my daily uniform of jammies or sweats, but now i am encouraged and held accountable to put a few extra minutes aside for myself and try new things.  i’d love for you to join me!

this week i pulled out the tripod and finally figured out how to use my remote (which immediately ran out of batteries – sheesh!).  so i am on my way to better outfit pictures and hope to continue to step it up a bit around here!

day 1

jacket – stitch fix //  cardigan – old navy //  shirt – forever 21 //  jeans – forever 21 //  boots – zappos //  belt – target // necklaces – made by me

our weather is silly right now, so i have to layer up for the super chilly mornings, then slowly peel off when i get warmer throughout the day.  this striped shirt is my go-to favorite shirt – it works with everything, is figure forgiving, and is so comfy.  and then there’s this utility jacket – its perfection.  i’ve been leaning into neutrals this year, but i do like a little pop of color, hence the tassle necklaces.

someone asked me last week if i do the front tuck all day , and the answer is yes.  a full tuck of my looser shirts can look a little funny, and sometimes untucked looks a bit sloppy, so the partial tuck defines the waist slightly without being too stuffy.

and for more details on my new boots, see this post where i reviewed a handful of booties.

day 2

cardigan – forever 21 //  v-neck shirt – forever 21 //  jeans – forever 21 //  boots – zappos //  gold necklace – lisa leonard designs //  coral necklace – 31 bits

the anti-neutral outfit.  this was inspired by unusual color combinations i’ve been loving lately, like this.  and yes, the boots again.  you’ll be seeing these a lot.  i like my pants to hit just above the top of the bootie, to cuffing is an essential.  socks also are essential to this cold-ankled girl, so i like to keep it fun with a funky printed sock.

day 3

chambray shirt – forever 21 //  black jeans – forever 21 // black quilted slip-ons – target // necklace – lisa leonard

classic casual outfit, never disappoints.  another one of those go-to outfits for when i can’t decide what to wear.  the necklace is sentimental, marking 5 years homeschooling/at my kids’ school – it says “semper discentes” which means “always learning together”.  tip on the shoes – great price but they don’t breathe at all.  nice & comfy but they definitely need little socks.

cardigan – forever 21 //  shirt – stitch fix //  ponte pants – stitch fix //  boots – off broadway shoes //  cuff – made by a friend

a word on ponte pants:  they are a nice thick fabric, much thicker than, say, cotton leggings.  i like these because they are fitted much like leggings, but have interesting seaming, pockets, etc.  more structured.  also, they are slightly looser in the calf/ankle area, more of a straight leg look.  i love them for a comfortable upgrade from the leggings.

day 5

sweater – forever 21 //  jeans – forever 21 // v-neck shirt – forever 21 //  boots – zappos //  necklace – lisa leonard designs // earrings – nickel & suede

pretty much an all new outfit, and i think you’ll be seeing a lot more of it!  i was shopping at forever 21, trying to find some cozy sweaters, finding only the aztec sweaters that i’ve seen all over, or cheap, scratchy looking ones.  mostly all in black and white.  but then i stumbled upon this navy and deep mustard lovely.  i slipped it on and it was so cozy!  then those jeans… i just walked past them and they caught my eye.  semi natural looking distressing and the perfect fit – not too loose and not too skinny.  i did do a minor tailoring job on the waist to get a better fit – i’ll have to share that later.  these are also the flat booties i decide to keep (see this post).  i wore them all day without even thinking about them being on my feet – so comfortable.

    Love your stripy top :)

    Thanks for hosting..

  2. 7

Particularly love day 5 & day 3. Both such effortless casual looks but really put-together & comfy looking. I strive to look that good – I think your height is where I fall short, you look long & lean so the longer cardi for example looks fab :)

  3. 8

I always love stripes and your coral necklace is gorgeous! Your hair also looks very pretty as well!
    Thanks for hosting this link-up!

  4. 10

You have such a great boot collection! I can’t believe you made those necklaces on day 1, they’re fab. Thanks for hosting, and good luck with the tripod selfies x

  5. 12

Love your outfits! I especially love the chambray shirt. Did you buy this recently at forever 21? I have been on the hunt for a shirt like this.

  11. 24

Okay, keep on using that tripod lady! You’re seriously the cutest!

  12. 26

Love all these looks because they’re so easy to wear but each one also adds an element of interest! Happy Wednesday!

  13. 27

love your blog! you are beautiful and I re create yourt outfits all the time. I think the old spot where you take pictures bathroom/closet? works better. The pics were easier to see even though your in the natural light here. I am no photographer though just my opinion! Keep doing what your doing look forward to the WWW posts each Wed:)

  14. 29

Love both ways that you styled the striped tee. And love those quilted slip-ons. Enjoy the rest of your week! ~Cynthia

  15. 31

I feel overwhelmed looking for jeans at forever 21. What style do you get? Are they true to size? I need a starting point.

  16. 33

Love the sweater in the last outfit…..and the third picture of you is adorable! Great job using the tripod. Using my remote has been the easiest for me but it’s finding the time to actually drag it out and use it and still have good lighting!

  17. 35

Loved cardigan choices! The yellow one is divine!
    Thanks for the Link up!

  18. 36

Lindsey your outfits are killing it this week! Especially that last one! I just realized I have been following you for 6 years now, and I still love your style. And thanks to you I’ve been blogging my own WIWW posts for 4.5 of those years… crazy.

  19. 38

There is just no such thing as too many pairs of jeans! Why do jeans make us love them so much? I buy jeans all the time and hardly ever wear them – should change that. Love that new pair. Also love the booties and the coral necklace. Fabulous outfits and thanks so much for hosting!

  20. 40

I love all your cardigans and booties! You’ve inspired me to add some more cardigans to my wardrobe.

  21. 41

  26. 51

I was wondering how the sizing is at Forever 21? Is your sweater a size small?
