oh this was a fun project! i love those ones where you hardly spend any money and they turn out so fun!
so i have the fun job this year of helping to do some decorating work at our school – yay me! i started a pinterest board for all the fun ideas i’d love to incorporate somehow. and if you’re confused about my kids going to school when i say we homeschool, well… it is a little confusing. we homeschool 3 days a week and they go to school 2 days. its pretty awesome.
so back to the lamp. i have a very limited budget and need to make a big impact.
at our local flea (basically a giant garage sale – some junk, some good), i found this lamp base for $2.
after taping off the cord and the “mechanicals” with painter’s tape, i sprayed the base with several coats of a high gloss grey. its so pretty, isn’t it?
when i found this tutorial by mandi i knew i had to try it! her instructions were great and it was a really fun project – a great way to inject a burst of color. i bought a plain drum lampshade at target for around $10 and used yarn i already had in my stash. while mandy’s lamp shade has an awesome ombre effect, mine worked better for the colors of this room.
and here it sits in the reception room of our admin offices, on top of a $3 dresser i repainted. love it!
