messenger bags

how fun are these messenger bags!?

they are great for the summer: throw in a towel, sunscreen, a magazine and head to the beach!

messenger bags

this bag is sized to fit up to a 17″ laptop, comfortably

messenger bags

i use my messenger bag as an everyday bag and can easily fit all of my daily necessities in there

the messenger bag is also great as a diaper bag – this one is perfectly gender neutral!  the bag interior is super roomy with a triple divided pocket and a key loop.

although i love the bags with sashes on them, i am still partial to my original design with the posies on it!

i also have several pencil pouches and other products that coordinate with these bags – so fun!

life rearranged
linking up my phone pics this week again with jeannett!

this girl got glasses!  i’ve yet to take a pic, but she’s so stinkin’ cute in them!

a little snippet from jeannett’s shower

and another snippet

so many people ask me how on earth i can have white couches.  2 reasons:  1) slipcovers and 2) bleach

but what do i despise?  putting the slipcovers back on after i wash them.  ugh.  full on work out.  like, sweat and everything.

so i usually wash them, let them sit on the couch for a day or so and get all wrinkly, drink a protein shake and then tackle the job ;)

checking things off our summer list!

just keeping it real.  this is what my feet look like every night.  these socks are curtesy of mique from blissdom last year, but my crazy sock collection is quite large.

i pinned this for my girl and she took right to it!

another thing to check off on the list: playing with shaving cream!

really, for about $1.50 (maybe?) this is good clean fun.

and the yummy smell afterwards doesn’t hurt

something new for us, and marking 2 things off our list: shaving cream ON the slip ‘n’ slide

it was fun, but water works much better

sometimes things on our summer list are a little bit selfish on my part.  getting ice ream was one of them, although no one complained!  i don’t like chocolate ice cream AT ALL, but chocolate malted crunch is the best!

since sean and my dad were gone for a few days with sean’s dad and uncle fishing in oregon, my mom and i decided to tackle a project or 2.  or 7.  we were on a roll!  this welcome sign my mom made is for the loft and was made on a slat of an old gate.  she printed out the words in the size font she wanted and just taped them in place, then traced around the letters really hard with a pencil to etch the wood.  then we filled in the lines with craft paint.

a little project i finally got to

another double whammy (2 things off our summer list):  having a lemonade stand AND donating the proceeds ($42!).

just finalizing the details on our porch bed (to be revealed soon).

fabric.com was a little, uh, creative (?) with their packaging of my latest order.

every wednesday, i am shocked to see how quickly people link up to wiww.  i always post at exactly midnight and i thought it would be a little funny to post 2 minutes later.  i know, it was mean!

my late night date: a pb cup s’more, people mag, jug o’ water, and a show on my laptop.

seanie’s home!  and he brought home dinner!

painted an old hand-me-down coffee table.  and ran out of paint just before finishing.  errrgh!

every time my parents visit they take us down the street to a sweet little mexican restaurant.  and every time we all order the same drinks: strawberry margs for the ladies and cadillac margs for the boys.  i always want to walk down there at about 3pm and get one to go.  not sure why i can’t? ;)

for some reason, i struggled to get my summer mantle right.  i tried about 10 different combinations and finally settled on “good enough”.

more projects are on the way, so it will be another busy week for me!

easy peasy slumber party

simple slumber party

i know i’m a bit behind, but i wanted to share with you a super easy party i threw for gracie’s 9th birthday last month.

she started with high hopes of having a horse party, complete with lessons for all her friends.  and that dream was quickly squashed.

since we’re not bajillionaires, we had decided to cut back on all our kids’ birthday parties this year and go simple (read: cheap).

so i slyly suggested a slumber party with her 3 closest friends and she took the bait!

i sent out a simple email invite, and did no decorating other than getting the slumbering room ready.

since the girls already have 2 twin beds in their room all we had to add was our queen size air mattress.  a little rearranging of beds, and hanging and old birthday banner, and the room was party ready!

simple slumber party

gracie loves horses (hence the horse party idea) so we still incorporated them into her party.  we live down the street from cal poly and they have a ton of horses there for us to visit.

simple slumber party

this is my favorite time of year to go because all the babies are being born!  i think we saw over 15 of them!

simple slumber party

how cute is this?!

these horses are always so friendly and come right up to the fence and let us love on them.

simple slumber party

even the mamas are super gentle.

we also incorporated a little “giving back” into her party, so we wrapped up some store bought cookies and headed downtown to pass them out to homeless people.  a couple of the girls had never done it before and were nervous, but soon became comfortable and joined right in!

simple slumber party

i let gracie choose whatever she wanted for dinner so we had pancakes with strawberries and whip cream!

simple slumber party

and for dessert i made some more trix crispies because i had leftovers from our batch we brought to school.  and because i wanted more of them.

simple slumber party

earlier in the week i had made all the girls matching jammie pants from vintage sheets i had in my stash.  no tutorial, sorry.  they all fit kind of awkwardly but there were no complaints, just a lot of tugging at the sagging rears ;)  thats what i get for doing things without a pattern!

the rest of the night was spent making friendship bracelets, drawing and watching a movie on their beds.

simple slumber party

and its not a slumber party without popcorn!

in the morning, we made homemade donuts and then the girls played for a couple more hours.

it was so easy and inexpensive!  this was such a great age to do this.  the girls loved it and so did i – i was hands free the whole evening after dinner!

what i wore wednesday

hey friends!  this is my first official wiww of summer and, well, i was kind of a slacker.  as always, i have plenty of excuses on the ready:  while our husbands have been fishing for a few days, my mom and i have been tackling project after project, so most of what i wore was painting clothes, gardening grubbies, or a bathing suit (a girl’s gotta relax a little, right?).

if you’re new here, my main purpose of wiww is to encourage other women to simply get dressed.  and by get dressed i mean out of jammies, out of sweats, out of yoga pants.  put on an actual outfit and maybe even some accessories.  its amazing how much better you’ll feel about yourself and as much as your husband may like you in your snug yoga pants, he’s gonna like it even more when you pretty yourself up a bit.  i’m not talking hours in front of the mirror, primping.  just maybe 15 minutes of getting dressed, running a brush through your bed head, and throwing on a sweep of blush and a dab of lipgloss.

this was my church outfit and what i wore running errands.

top – forever 21

jeans – local shop

wedges – old navy

projects around the house and running more errands (how many times can i go to home depot in one week?!)

t-shirt – forever 21

jeans – target

chucks – nordstrom rack

necklace – lisa leonard designs

(ps – just for full disclosure, i took about 15 pictures of this outfit.  trying to suck in your stomach and take a steady picture at the same time is tricky.  and that sideways lighting does not help!)

so sloppy, i know!  but i was so comfy.  i wore this working around the house, watching 6 kids, and running a few more errands.  why are there so many more errands associated with doing projects?!

sweater – old navy

tank and lounge pants – target

flops – payless

baby boy shower

last weekend, my friend joy and i hosted a baby shower for our sweet friend jeannett – just a few weeks away from baby #4, and boy #2.

joy had these jars from a shower she and jeannett threw for another friend (yeah, we all throw showers for each other) so we were able to reuse them.

grey paper straws, navy washi tape (from target!) flags, and orange yarn pompoms made the drinking jars adorable!

to keep with the color theme, we served orange cream soda and bubbly water.

since we were doing a really simple shower (just dessert), i only needed to decorate one table.

we used newsprint and navy polka dot fabric from my stash for a table runner.

the centerpieces were super simple as well: square vases wrapped in newsprint and orange yarn.  the white mums and daisies were from costco.

yarn and newsprint pompoms hung from the chandelier.

and a length of a banner was added to a photo shelf.

i always love decorating my mantle, but with not having many navy or orange accessories to add to it, it was time to get creative.  i borrowed the tall galvanized candle holders and added some galvanized buckets from my potting bench.

jeannett’s nickname for her yet-to-be-named baby has been walter, so we gave her a little laugh with a banner over the mantle.

the banner was super easy – just fabric and newsprint.  i cut the fabric just smaller than the newsprint and the ran the top edge through my machine.  then i cut 2 small holes near the upper corners to thread the yarn through.

joy had the great idea of doing brownies in a jar!

just add ice cream, nuts, homemade chocolate sauce and whip cream – yuuuum!

it was a joy celebrating jeannett!

we were also blessed to have tammy do the devotion:  a sweet letter of encouragement and reminders for jeannett – thank you tammy!

and of all the fun gifts jeannett got, i loved this handmade quilt her mother-in-law made for her baby.  she’s made one for each of jeannett’s kids – how sweet is that?!

yummy {healthy} smoothie recipe!

i make smoothies at least 3 times a week.  i love them, my kids love them, and they are a quick and easy way to fill up our tummies with yummies.

i change my recipe a lot, partly because i get bored, and partly because of what’s in my freezer.

ok, so don’t freak out about the spinach.  i promise you can’t taste it.  its actually pretty tasteless when its fresh.  i buy a big (gigantic) bag of spinach from costco and even though i can never use it all before it goes bad, it only costs a few dollars.

i put in a couple huge handfuls and squish it all the way down to the bottom with my fist.  tell that spinach who’s boss.

next i add a bit of flax seed meal (make sure its milled, not the whole seeds, since they just pass right through your system).

i don’t measure how much i put in, just eyeball it – maybe 1/8-1/4 cup?  and flax meal is pretty flavorless, too, but like the spinach, its super healthy for you.

i always always always add bananas.  they add a creamy texture.  if i have a few bananas that are too ripe to eat, i’ll peel and toss them into a baggy in the freezer and use them later.  i prefer to use the frozen ones, but fresh are totally fine, too.  one banana is fine, but 2 is better.

i always have a big ol’ bag of frozen fruit from costco in my freezer.  always strawberries and usually something else – a mix of berries or pineapple/mango/papaya mix.  this week all i had was strawberries, so that’s what i used!  if the greenish color freaks you out, add berries – they are full of color.

i used to add plain yogurt but some in our family react a little funny to dairy, so we’ve been skipping it for awhile.

last i add the only unhealthy ingredient: apple juice.  orange juice is a little too strong for me in smoothies.

then i blend it up.  if you don’t put the spinach in the bottom, it doesn’t blend well and then you have pieces of spinach floating around.  not good.

put it in a cup, add a straw and make happy healthy kids!

in the shop…

this bag is one of my favorites yet!  i have several new styles of messenger bags in the works, so if the one you love is sold out, i am making more – keep checking back in!

after you get a bag, grab a pencil pouch to toss in,

and of course, you need a coordinating sunnies case!

life rearranged
linking up my weekly phone pics with jeannett again this week!

we celebrated sean’s birthday this week – 37 never looked so good!

in case i ever forget my kids’ names, lisa is so helpful!

i always take awhile to warm up to trends.  actually, i tend to miss them completely before i decide i like them.  a couple years ago i swore i’d never wear skinny jeans…  so yes, i’m pretty late on the high bun thing.

i was searching through old pics on my computer and i found this one.  its me and my friend nicole’s youngest baby from a couple years ago.  it made me happy/sad to see this.  happy for the memory, sad that we don’t get to see them enough…

we finished off school this week and the kids brought flowers fresh form our garden to give to their teachers.  my garden is at its best ever right now – so fun!

many of these will be consumed this summer.  many.  many.  many. (yes, thats a pb cup in there)

i finished our summer list!

nothing says summer like fish tacos and a strawberry margarita.  quick recipe:  frozen talapia from costco, sprinkled heavily with lemon pepper, cooked in olive oil.  add black beans, avocado, peach salsa, and pepperoncinis all wrapped in a flour tortilla- so yummy!

at this point, i think we’ll just leave the christmas lights up.  don’t judge.

lisa’s new summer line had me dreaming of one day having a big fancy product line myself – her new line is amazing!

some days are long and some days are hard.  and some days are long and hard.  i am so thankful for a husband who recognizes that and let’s me go out for a long date with myself.  coffee, a cookie, and a pile of magazines did the trick!

school’s out – let’s start summer!  a sweet friend has a very warm pool close by that we fully intend to over use this summer!

our school celebrated ending the year with a bubble bash – the kids were so happy!

although this new messenger bag sold already, i have more  in the works!  i’m hoping to list a couple more in the next few days, so keep an eye out if you’ve been waiting to get one!

kids in bed.  a moment of peace.

happy friday!

summer service list

i just showed you our summer list (its also pictured below) – a gigantic list of all the fun activities we hope to do as a family this summer.

but i began to think that we should do more.  and not more for us, but more for others.  i am always telling the kids to think of others first, but we don’t always put it into practice.  with the extra free time summer provides, i thought this would be a perfect time to put our words into actions!

in case you can’t read them all, here’s whats on our list:

- write letters to grandparents – drop a vase of flowers at a friend’s house – surprise someone with donuts – bake cookies for a neighbor – donate old toys – get smoothies for friends – give a “just because” gift – do your sibling’s chores – deliver cookies to the homeless – order pizza for a friend – donate proceeds from a lemonade stand – write letters to friends – baby sit for a friend

we have our summer service list right above our summer list, right at eye level.

what would you put on your summer service list? we’d love more ideas!

what i wore wednesday

welcome to “wiww” friends!  this is a weekly meet up, where we share our outfits from the week, keeping each other accountable to just get dressed!  as a stay-at-home mom, it is all too easy to stay in my jammies, or just throw on yoga pants each day.  and i confess:  its 4:45 pm and i’m still in my pj’s!  but because of wiww, i put effort into getting dressed almost every day and i feel so much better about myself and more productive when i do.  if you need a little extra motivation, join us!
