guest blogger nicole: "no girls allowed"

… that is except for the big sis that sleeps in here most nights.
This is a tour of my boys’ room. Funny thing is I started designing this house when my baby girl was 1 ½ and I was pregnant with my first son. Little did I know I would be now having my third son. I guess deep down I always thought I was destined for a house full of boys. So, this room was designed before I knew who would fill it and it has worked out perfectly!

The paint color is called glazed pecan (from???)

The wood paneling is awesome. Warms it up… makes it a bit more rugged boy. This is what it looks like above the 3 beds:

Speaking of beds…no! you cannot buy these anywhere. Daddy made them. We have had these skate decks for years. And as soon as we moved our first son, drew, into his b.b.b. (big boy bed) we made use of them. Great thing is… we have just enough to make 2 more headboards. On hubby’s to-do-before-the-baby-comes-in -august list.

The bedding was a king size comforter that I cut in half to cover the 2 outside beds. It is like a soft burlap… love it. The center one is filling in until I can find something I love.

The pillow cases… my biggest expense in the room. PB teen… on sale though!

Lots of free/cheap stuff in here…
5 dollar bucket that collects clothes until it is full and then they make their way to the closet.

Free… yes I said FREE vans display shelving. I found it new in the box behind a skate shop down the alley from our house. I called… they begged me to take it. Apparently, they got 2 of them. I love it when the treasures find me.

Drew and Hawk’s little skate decks. Most are from Drew’s 3rd b-day… a skate party where daddy built a ramp for the little dudes.

Old lunch boxes… I would love to collect these… along with everyone else on eBay

The stereo that has been in every room in the house. Lindsey has the same one. Do you still have it linds? {yes, i do, but it refuses to work any longer. i can’t bring myself to toss it, though} A target find… oh, maybe 6 years ago.

The lockers… mmmmmm… I love the lockers. 15 bucks from a local catering company that closed down. Same place I got the table in my basement.

They are filled with books… and power ranger suits, light sabers, hot wheels, etc. but mostly books.

And the secret door from last week. This leads to baby #4’s room. All kids love secret doors and this is no exception. Oh, and a free poster handing up above on the wall. Uncle Nolan scored that for us.

I made the pillows out of daddy’s old shirts. This is wonderful for me in every way… free fabric and daddy is forced to clean out his closet. This is torture for him… a born saver and pack rat. He loves these pillows though… because he really didn’t have to see them go entirely.

So, there it is… one of my favorite rooms in the house. The best thing about it is seeing all 3 kids sleep in one room together each night. Bed time like this can be crazy sometimes… but there is something so sweet about it. Reminds me of the bedroom/nursery in the original Peter Pan. My girl, just like Wendy, will be devastated when she has to “grow-up” and move on to her own room. Good thing she has a couple more years…

Happy day!
