pumpkin carving

what?  you don’t scoop out the pumpkin snot with a pretty antique spoon?  so uncivilized!

we decided to be ahead of the game and carve our pumpkins last week!

the kids drew pictures on their pumpkins and we carved away.

this little monkey will be very appropriately dressed this year… just wait – easiest no-sew costume ever!

silas is such a mommy’s boy, gentle and loving, always doting on me…

er… not!  these outtakes made me crack up!  this is sooo my reality – si is a total lover boy, but so crazy wild – he kills me!

lily’s polka dot pumpkin (so very lily), silas’ pirate pum[kin, and gracie’s cat silhouette (all her drawing).

we enjoyed these beautiful pumpkins for exactly ONE night.  then we went out of town and…

no.  no one stole our pumpkins and smashed them in the street.  that would’ve been less disgusting.

instead we came home to 3 piles of moldy, oozing, mush on our porch.  the pumpkins had all collapsed and festered while we were gone.  so disappointing, so gross.

no more early bird for me! i’m going back to procrastinating next year and we’ll do the carving just before halloween.  stinkin’ pumpkins.

in other, less moldy, news:

i added more posy pins to my shop and spent this afternoon cutting tiny pouches and monster posies for more bloom bags.  my wrists hurt!

I have actually never carved a pumpkin before! Or (GASP) had roasted pumpkin seeds!! I think this year we are changing all of that! Hugs!

I love the polka dot pumpkin… your kiddos are super cute. Fun family times. So sorry they turned into a mushy mess.

  6. 6

Your kids are so cute! Sorry your pumpkins rotted away. We carved ours this past Sunday and it’s been pretty cool out so I think they are okay.

soo funny! i carved a pumpkin in my classroom when i first started teaching, left it there over the weekend, and came back to find it a depleted oozy, smooshy mess! everything around it was ruined! :0 we all have to learn once. :)

I so enjoy your blog…you are so like me and my friends…i see your wiww posts and I feel I am normal. Some days cute, some days comfy but still cute, and some days well…not so cute. I love my “not so cute” days…they mean I get to hang out at home w/ my kiddos doing kiddo things! I would love for you to “visit” me at my blog when you have a chance…I plan to do a wiww when I get organized enough to remember to take the pic!
    Have a great day!

We did the same thing — carved our pumpkin last weekend, kept it in the cool house, and it still rotted. We threw it out yesterday. UGH!

    Cute pics!

  13. 13

I had to learn the hard way too, sadly! Next year we’re doing it the night or two before Halloween!

  14. 14

did you do with the pumpkins what michael does? take them out back (wherever that is at our house) and shoot at them with bb guns. “jilas” would like that.

  15. 15

Cute, I have a lover boy too!, and he is also a wild one.

just had to share a neat “God thing”…I have been wanting to purchase your posy pins for several weeks but just haven’t had the money for that. Yesterday, I randomly realized as I was cleaning out my email inbox that I had $30 in free merchandise that I could receive from DaySpring for choosing to sponsor a Compassion child…I had totally forgotten this. So I started wading through their online items and literally couldn’t believe it when I found your posy pins on their site with incourage!!!! So I ordered them with all giddiness and disbelief and can’t wait until they arrive :)

super cute pumpkins! i love lily’s polka dot one – i may have to copy her :)

i know it’s too late for this year, but i read in 2 magazines this year that if you sprinkle the inside and cut out areas of the pumpkin with cinnamon they won’t rot as fast. apparently cinnamon is a natural preservative.

LOL, it’s always great (as in, reassuring!) to see other people’s boys being boys!

  21. 21

We haven’t carved pumpkins the last 2yrs, and I can’t say that I miss it at all! Its so much work for such a short amount of time that they last!
Silas is too cute, boys and their mama’s..priceless!
