what i wore

welcome to “what i wore” at the pleated poppy!  i’ve been blogging for over 9 years and doing this specific weekly post for over 6, but if you’re new here, here’s the gist:  i started this originally as motivation to get out of my daily uniform of jammies or sweats, but now i am encouraged and held accountable to put a few extra minutes aside for myself and try new things.  i’d love for you to join me!  i’m not fancy, my pictures aren’t great, and i don’t spend a ton of money on clothes.  this is a casual thing, just meant to encourage women to simply get dressed!

do you want to join me for “what i wore“?  yay!  just follow the rules:

1. link to your specific blog post, not your blog’s main page. ex: http://thepleatedpoppy.com/2011/09/what-i-wore-wednesday-fall-inspiration/ not http://thepleatedpoppy.com/blog/.

2. please only link outfit related posts. your craft project may be adorable, or that may be a great giveaway, but this linky is for outfit related posts only – thank you!  read: i WILL delete posts that are not fashion related.  it just doesn’t make sense to add them, so don’t.

3. please link back here to me so all this wiww stuff makes sense to your readers. and its just nice to do ;)

4. check out as many links as possible! i am constantly inspired by so many outfits each week! and you will definitely find some new blogs that you’ve never stumbled upon before – so fun!

star wars perler beads

2 little known facts about me: 1- i love to do puzzles, but pretty much only at christmas.  i totally become anti social, unless you want to do a puzzle with me, then i’ll talk to you the whole time.  i just have a hard time walking away from the puzzle.  my family all knows this.  sean was the best this christmas and got me TWO new puzzles (though i will happily do old puzzles over and over).  one of them was a hideous cat puzzle, which is hilarious because he and i are not so much fans of the felines.  the other fact, similar to puzzles, is that i love to work (play) with perler beads.  i try to convince my kids to do them with me, but really i am happy to do them alone as well.  its just that perler beads are definitely a “kid” activity, so i need to at least get them to start with me, then, if i have to, i’ll finish up on my own ;)

this christmas break, we had quite a few veg out days, so we got out the basket of perler beads that we’ve had in the rotation of use for several years now.  we even used them for gracie’s craft camp party!  here’s the thing about perler beads, and i guess lots of kids crafts in general: you make something with them and then what?  you hang a melted plastic bead creation on the wall?  in an effort to be more thoughtful about what we bring into our home, or what we give away to have a purpose, we had to think about what we were going to put our time into.  my kids, the girls especially, are so into pinterest.  its fairly safe, for the most part, but there have been several times that i’ve had to mark pins with inappropriate content.  the girls found some adorable examples of perler bead creations and we all decided to make a bunch of little star wars characters, then string them together like a bunting and pass them along to our trio of younger boy cousins who are big star wars fans (the youngest could hum the star wars anthem before he could talk).  our creations had a purpose, and even better, a home (that wasn’t mine).

we found our inspiration here, here, and here, and had to just make up a few of our own characters on our own.  also, please forgive our portrayal of rey – we just had run out of beads and were trying our best to make her look human, though she looks a bit more monkey-like, unfortunately!

we have a giant multi-color bucket of beads (i’d say get it at michael’s or hobby lobby with a coupon), and then we’ve bought specific colors if we needed them, like these.

hopefully this can help your star wars loving kids (or you) make your own perler bead creations!
